Kurin Shinken (Live Edge) - Shoden - by NineCircles

Kurin's Shinken for Iaido and Tameshigiri are unrivalled in value and quality.  We had never seen production Shinken of this quality or style until we started selling the Kurin range, as these swords are very close to individually made Japanese Shinsakuto in feel, balance, shape, polish and blade quality.   They are an unmissable option for those advanced Iaidoka who need a reliable Shinken for practice and at less than a 1/3 of the price of a new Shinken from Japan, they are a real bargain.

UK Sword Documentation Requirements

In 2008 the UK government passed an amendment to 'The Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons)', to include swords with curved blades, over a length of 50cm.  This legislation criminalised the manufacture, sale, hire or loan of Japanese swords within the UK.

Along with that amendment was included an exemption for practitioners of permitted activities within bona fide clubs and organisations.  The government's definition of a legitimate group is one which has public liability insurance for their activity.

In order to comply with that legislation and to supply both parties with exemption from prosecution, Nine Circles collect data from all UK clients before the dispatch of any sword from our warehouse.

We require the following document copies:

Proof of identification - Any official document such as a passport or driving license.

Proof of address - Any utility bill, bank statement or official letter head confirming the customers registered address.

Proof of Dojo membership - Current membership book or personal insurance confirming membership of the relevant club or association.

Proof of public liability insurance - A copy of the Dojo or association public liability insurance provision (certificate or other official confirmation from insurer).

Kurin swords represent some of the best value production Shinken on the global market. Specialising in high quality tools for Iaido and Tameshigiri, Kurin's models bridge the gap between production models and bespoke Nihonto, at a fraction of the price.

Features of these models include:

  • Iaido Blade - blades are slimmed down and have a full Hi to reduce overall weight and improve balance.
  • T-10 Steel - high carbon mono-steel, forged and differentially tempered to produce a variable hardness (Ha - 57HRC, Mune 35HRC).
  • Hand Polish - traditional stones are used throughout the polishing process to produce an outstanding finish, showing the grain of the steel and to reveal the genuine Hamon.
  • Silver Kanagu - silver fittings in classic Japanese designs bring an additional touch of class to complete the package.

These swords do not include a stand.

Warning - These swords are extremely sharp, Nine Circles does not accept any liabilty for any injury caused through their use.
